Tuscaloosa CAN

WFES competes in the Tuscaloosa CAN competition this year. This community service project provides canned foods to the local food bank, while integrating Engineering and Art.

Spelling Bee

Students in 3rd - 5th grades have the opportunity to participate in our annual WFES Scripps Spelling Bee, which takes place in the late fall each year. The winner will go on to compete at the district level. 
2019-2020 - Champion - Elsa Totenhagen (5th grade; marketplace); 2nd place - Liam Chappell (5th); Grade Level Winner - Layla White (4th) 

Perennial Math Competition

Teams of 3rd - 5th grade students compete in the Perennial Math Competition in the early spring.
2020 - 4th graders placed 3rd in their grade level competition, and a 3rd grade student placed 1st in his grade level's individual competition

Robotics

WFES Robotics Team is composed of 4th and 5th graders eager to learn about coding and is coordinated by Mr. Wigfall. Students meet weekly afterschool to practice and develop skills to build and navigate their robots.  Currently, they are working with VexGo robots to use for several competitions this year.
