Welcome to my page on the WFES library section! I am Mrs. Shelli Lavender and I am excited to share my love of books and learning with all the children at Woodland Forrest! I am new to the District and this is my first time in the role of librarian. I come to the Forrest with many years as a classroom teacher in public and private schools. I am also a credential reading specialist with a Master’s degree in Education. I am now working on my degree in Library Media! Life-long learning is a great thing to model for our students.
Working in a library has been a wish of mine for years, and now I am excited to have the opportunity to be at The Forrest working with a wonderful faculty, administration, and of course, amazing students. It is a thrill to find books and online resources to share with the children that I know will deepen their understanding of the world and themselves.
When I am not at School, I am usually at our family farm in Greene County. My husband’s family have owned the land and farm since the late 1800’s! We are blessed to be able to grow fresh produce and see to the welfare of our donkey and small herd of goats! I love being outdoors in my spare time, and the farm provides the fresh air and worthwhile activities to make it one of my most favorite places to be.
My husband was born on the farm, so this is how I came to Alabama. We met in Ohio and when we had the chance to move here in 2012, we made the journey all the way from the West Coast, where we lived for almost 8 years. I am a big Buckeyes fan, but I love the Tide too – Nick Saban is one of my favorite coaches of all time and we both attended Kent State University in Ohio. I love great football, so may the best team always win!
Cheers to a great story – anytime!
